I used to ride on my bike by a sign that someone had put above their front door that read CONSIDER YOURSELF. I always thought about this sign. Did it mean "think of yourself" or did it mean "consider your own life" or did it mean "pick yourself first"? I used to ask people about it. Everyone had their own opinion.
For the PSU MFA "thesis" exhibition at the Disjecta Gallery, I decided to provoke neighborhood appreciation with Reconsider Yourself. I installed remakes of a sign I used to see. People who visited the gallery were invited to participate in the project by taking a sign for their home. The signs went fast. Thanks to Tamar Monhait for her silk screen help without which the project wouldn't have happened.
Someone said they liked the sign because it was open. It doesn't tell you what to think, only to think. Simply consider it.
